    Visa application preparation for Italy

    Family history and eligibility

Review of the line of descent

The first step is to gather family records and review the Italian parent’s citizenship status. Having an Italian ancestor does not, by itself, establish eligibility for recognition.

    • Review of parent-child relationships and available records.
    • Review of certificates and citizenship history.
    • Review of legal requirements and the competent authority for the application.

Applications concerning minors require a separate review of declarations, dates and conditions under current legislation.

Scope: We act in both the administrative and judicial recognition routes for Italian citizenship. Every case requires an individual assessment.

    Research and organisation

Genealogical research and record searches in Italy

We reconstruct family relationships from available documents and guide the search for Italian records. Research may involve the comune of origin, parishes, diocesan archives and other collections, depending on the period and type of record.

    • Identification of the location and period of family records.
    • Guidance on obtaining birth, marriage and death certificates.
    • Cross-checking names, dates and parentage across documents.
    • Identification of discrepancies and appropriate correction procedures.

Record availability and issuing times depend on the responsible authorities. The required documents are determined after reviewing the case.

Obtaining certificates and documents in Italy

We locate and request Italian civil, ecclesiastical and consular records for citizenship, visas and civil-record transcription. Searches are directed to comuni, parishes and competent archives according to the information available about the family.

    • Birth, marriage and death certificates and extracts.
    • Baptism records and other ecclesiastical records.
    • Consular certificates and historical residence records, where available.
    • Review of document format, legalisation and translation for its intended use.

Issuance depends on locating the record, the responsible authority’s rules and the applicant’s entitlement to request it. Fees and document expenses are explained according to the service required.

    Apostilles and translation into Italian

Documents issued outside Italy may require an apostille or legalisation and translation into Italian. Their presentation must follow the instructions of the consulate or comune handling the application.

    • Review of authentication requirements in the issuing country.
    • Guidance on Hague apostilles or legalisation, where applicable.
    • Preparation of translations in the format accepted by the Italian authority.
    • Cross-checking original documents and translations.

Translation and apostilles do not replace eligibility assessment or guarantee citizenship recognition.

Corrections and transcription of civil records

We review discrepancies between certificates and guide the appropriate correction procedure in the issuing country. For Italian citizens, we also support preparation of civil events that occurred abroad and need to be reported or transcribed into Italian records.

    • Review of spelling, dates, places and parent-child relationships.
    • Guidance on document corrections before competent authorities.
    • Preparation of birth and marriage records from outside Italy.
    • Document review of divorces and changes in marital status for submission to the Italian authority.

Transcription depends on the nature of the event and Italian requirements. Automatic recognition of foreign decisions is not presumed.

AIRE / Fast It registration and updates

We assist Italian citizens residing abroad with preparation of AIRE registration and update requests, following the responsible consulate’s instructions. Fast It is the consular portal for the services available through it; assistance is tailored to each person’s registration and documents.

    • AIRE registration and regularisation of consular records.
    • Updates to an address abroad or a change of consular district.
    • Marital-status updates, including marriage and divorce.
    • Registration of minor children and preparation of birth transcription documents.
    • Guidance on transcriptions, supporting documents and follow-up of consular requirements.

Access to Fast It is personal: we do not ask you to share your password. AIRE registration, civil-record transcription and passport issuance are separate procedures. Final review and registration updates rest with Italian authorities.

    Eligibility

    Reviewing citizenship eligibility.

Eligibility depends on current legislation and the family’s citizenship history, including changes introduced by Law 74/2025. Documents must be reviewed before an application is submitted.

Our scope is clear: we act in both the administrative route, before a consulate or comune, and the judicial route for Italian citizenship, depending on the circumstances of each case.

Preparation starts with a review of the records and circumstances of the case, without a guarantee of approval or completion time. The decision rests with the Italian authorities.

    • Naturalisation and citizenship history documents, where required.
    • Applicant identity documents and proof of residence.

We organise the dossier and guide the application before the competent consulate or comune, on the administrative route for children of Italian citizens. Follow-up includes communicating requests and case updates.

Timing depends on the competent authority, document availability and the circumstances of the case.
